The Flash is Worth Obsessing Over

Two words - The Flash!

The Flash is my summer obsession. I loved it while it was airing in the fall, but in it's absence I have grown obsessed with the show. There are just so many things to love, and I will try to mention as many things as I can about those lovable things.

The first thing I will mention is Barry Allen because he is the star of the show. He is the most lovable main character I think I have ever witnessed on television. A lot of times secondary characters over-shadow main characters, but this is not that show. Barry Allen is The Flash, and both of his personas are incredibly entertaining and quirky. Barry Allen is still always late, as he was in Arrow, and is still 'adorkable' as the kids say. He is funny, sweet, smart, and well dressed. Last but not least Barry Allen is a hero.

The secondary characters are amazing! Papa Joe, Caitlin Snow, and Cisco are all lovable. Captain Cold is also the best bad guy on TV right now.

You can clearly see how much Detective Joe West loves his kids, and he is a hero in his own right. His only character flaw is not knowing where to draw the line when it come to being over-protective Papa Bear.

Caitlin is not my favorite character, but the fans love her and she does have great lines! Her chemistry with Barry Allen is cute, but I'm definitely a (Here comes a shipper name) Firestorm kind of girl (Here comes another shipper name) not a SnowBarry fan. Caitlin is like the Mother Hen to a 'prone to accidents' Barry Allen.

Cisco is so adorable! I relate the most with his movie obsession, being a Cinema/Television major in school. His nod to Buster Keaton's brilliance is much appreciated. There is an abundance of good writing for his character. He loves candy, has a love/hate relationship with his brother, and he comes up with all the cool comic book code names for the good guys and bad guys alike. Ya gotta love Cisco! He's the squealing fangirl/fanboy in all of us.

Next and most debate worthy is the character of Iris West. People don't like her. The fans don't like her.

 I LOVE her.

Next to Barry Allen, Iris West is my favorite character and I have plenty of reasons to love her. She is a funny, smart, fashionista with a blog. She does not take no for an answer. I love her love of life, and I love that she's pretty fearless and fierce. The one character flaw that I have seen is a writing error in episode 15. It was still an amazing plot had it not been  completely inconsistent with Iris' morality in the show, which I don't appreciate. (SPOILER ALERT) Hello, Iris would not cheat on Eddie!

(It still was a pretty cool/ amazing plot and visually well shot. Good tones. Good flares. Don't get me started about the zooming and camera movement - can you see the hearts in my eyes?)

The writers bend her character around Barry instead of giving her her own goals in the show, which is not cool. However, I think her gumption far out ways her breaking Barry's heart.  The writer's do need to tweak her a bit. I have some ideas if they'd only ask me *wink*wink*

The effects are incredible! Every city shot of the superhero in action are different from each other, which is amazing!

Last, but not least: WARDROBE

The fashion on The Flash  is drool worthy, and I even bought myself one of the dresses Iris West wears in the Flash/Arrow crossover episode.

The wardrobe department deserves a medal. Every character has their own style. Caitlin is not like Iris, and their outfits show that clearly. However, both women have  jackets that Felicity Smoak has worn in Arrow. (Yes, the clothes crossover, too.) Besides, the characters from The Flash both love Felicity, and that makes sense because who doesn't, so naturally they would have something in common via style? All the women on this show are different and their styles are distinct.
Barry Allen's clothes are perfect, too, for your information.
End of fashion rant! (Check out http://wornontv.net/the-flash/ if you love their fashion, too.)

Relatable Note:  October 6th can't come fast enough with the second season!

The Verdict: The Flash is worth obsessing over.

Girl Meets World - Humor and Heart

First thing is first - I love Girl Meets World.

I am in college, and I found this show laugh out loud funny! This is the first Disney story since Lizzie McGuire that has actually had a good story and life lesson in every episode. Even the good Good Luck Charlie has not matched the humor and heart of Girl Meets World.

No, this show is not the same as Boy Meets World. However, I think Girl Meets World captures the parts of Boy Meets World in all the right places. I believe that the first season has dynamically followed the first season of the original story-line despite an age difference, and the little things that mirror the old show cause it to translate to the next generation correctly. They have just enough flashbacks and character cameos and often enough to keep everyone interested if the old show is why they are watching.

What I love about this show is its innocence without ignorance. They have Maya, the main character's best friend, who is set to be the new Shawn Hunter. This girl is perfect in a broken way. Disney (and I am generalizing) has recently been portraying dumb girls in an extreme way, and showing that it is okay to know absolutely nothing and always have detention just because that is who you are if you are not smart like the main character. You watch other shows and know that they would have been held back in school multiple times or would have been dead from walking in front of a bus by this point in their lives. This show avoids cliches while still having them, and they walk the line beautifullyWhat is so beautiful about Maya's character in contrast to the characters in other shows is that she is actually striving to better herself, and states that she does not want to fail.

These characters want to learn, and I think that this show is what kids these days need in their lives. (It is almost like a live-action Hey Arnold show in which Riley is Arnold fixing everybody's problems. Think about it.... this show is a 90s dreams come true.)

Riley is a very relatable character for the good girl who just wants to help people. I don't know who I am, where I fit in, and I don't really have that one thing that I am good at. I find this show and its main character so inspirational and relatable. I am in college, and honestly I still find myself - just meeting the world. This show has actually inspired me to work harder and really find who I am, and I really love that Disney has brought those qualities back to their channel. You do not have to be brilliant or dumb to be a 'good' person. You can be average and still be good enough. Even though the show has your crazy, your smart, your artistic, and your good looking popular character. When I watch I feel like I can just be myself in the world, and it will be okay in the end.

Relatable Note: The characters act like real people.

The Verdict: Girl Meets World is a 90s dream come true....

Magic of Sleepless In Seattle and You've Got Mail

Today, for the first time in my life, I watched Sleepless In Seattle followed by You've Got Mail which both star Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. Needless to say both of these movies are absolutely brilliant.
It honestly made me want to go back and live in the 90s, and makes me proud that I remember what it was like to wait for AOL internet to work.

I wanted to watch You've Got Mail since one of my family's friends was talking about it at dinner one night, so I figured it was the perfect rebound movie after Sleepless In Seattle.

Probably everyone in history except for me and my best friend have seen the two films, but today was the day I finally curled up and watched them for myself. I eagerly waited to find them either charming or annoying. I found them amazing charming, and I really don't even remember why! That's what's so interesting - I can't pin-point anything that really should out about it, but I knew I loved it! It was -well it was like magic...

So all I can do is say a few words about love and technicalities.

Always, and I repeat, always - put Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in a love story together.

I am looking forward to see seeing them play an older couple one day, even if I have to write, produce, direct movie, and pay them myself- I have to see them make another movie together! I can't even picture City of Angles anymore.

Both the films I watched tonight were almost the same in the love department... The basic message -don't stop searching until you find the illusive "one" and you will know when you feel the supposed "magic" when you meet them. I couldn't help but realize that it was kind of true - at least for a hopeless romantic like me. You never stop searching for the one when you don't feel as if you've actually found that person. It hurts just as much when things don't work out with someone who doesn't fit the build, but we seem to keep hoping, even when it makes us feel like dying, love starved zombies. That's what made these movies so inciting. The characters are just as crazy, messed up, and goofy as the rest of us.

The whole time I was watching Sleepless In Seattle I was wondering would I or would I not go to New York to meet Sam on top of the Empire State Building if I were Annie? The second I thought I wouldn't was the second the story through in a twist I was not expecting. Except for the back-pack part, now that I saw coming. I do wish it had more of an ending.

With You've Got Mail, I found it all so believable. I freaked out when I saw mother and daughter dancing ghost style in the bookstore when it closed... it was a little too fantastical for the aesthetic of the film.

The only thing I found wrong with both of these movies were that they both had an establishing shot mid-scene at a restaurant. I hated that. Film students, never put the establishing shot in the middle of a restaurant scene! Please?... For me?

Good.

Relatable Notes: Hiding your crazy side with anyone except your best friend. (Sleepless In Seattle)
Sometimes your enemies can be your footstools. (You've Got Mail)

The Verdict:       These movies are classics because they are magic!

I Miss Manhattan Love Story!

First thing is first, who doesn't love a hilarious, happy married couple living with a socially awkward, yet lovable sidekick?

Not only did I love Manhattan Love Story, I recommended the show to my best friend the second I watched it! It was four episodes into it's short life, and I watched every one of those episodes in one Hulu binge session. Therefore my question is this - if the show was so great (which it really was) why was it cancelled?

Glad you asked.

I am blaming the shows early cancellation on how they promoted the poor show. In the promotional trailers for Manhattan Love Story they explain that it is all about what's in the character's heads, what Dana and Peter, the protagonists, are really thinking about. That was a great idea for the show! However, it's not the main selling point. This idea factors in only to aid the storytelling, but not to help the plot.

The audience really needed to see more about the character's personalities because that's what made us stick around. If the commercials would've shown more heart, and less love and embarrassment, I would have tuned in sooner. Not only that, I would have stuck around for more, and I believe others would have as well.

To quote the Flash's character Iris, "And she happens to come from your very rare species of adorable nerds." That is exactly why I started to fall in love with Manhattan Love Story. Dana was that adorable nerd that everybody was rooting for to win over the bad boy/jerk-ish guy Peter; who was clearly already falling hard over Dana's addicting personally. Not to mention Peter's hilarious family was in the mix. This included his half-brother David who was married to Dana's best friend Amy, which is why Dana and Peter were fixed up in the first place. Then there was Peter's sister Chloe who was rooting for Dana to make her half-brother experience the feelings he was so dreading. Dana's best friend Amy was the perfect mix of up-scale perfectionist and sisterly adviser.

Relatable Note: Dana's inability to work technology had me laughing out loud from start to finish!

The Verdict: This lovable show's downfall was due to - A very bad first date...

...The audience obviously stood-up Manhattan Love Story :(

Update: Hulu added the rest of the season for people to watch!
